Head of government The prime ministre (the PM) and NOT the monarch who reigns but doesn't rule.

The PM is the leader of the party that won a majority in the House of Commons in the general/legisltaive election to Parliament.
The president => Be careful : No PM in the US.

The president is elected indisrectly : US voters (careful = électeurs) elect (it's the popular vote) the 538 electors (careful = grands électeurs) of the electoral college who in turn elect (it's the electoral vote) the president.

PM and Cabinet confirmed by the monarch BUT a formality. Cabinet members (the executive) always confirmed by the Senate (the legislative)
